We’re all on a personal and professional journey and while I try to walk with honesty and integrity each day, and while I pride myself on the work that I do, we all make mistakes sometimes. And so to my one…
I was recently called out about a quote which featured on my website and which I claimed, but which – it turns out – was actually first said by someone very significantly better known.
As you can imagine, it’s not ideal that I was seen to claim credit for something not my own, particularly when a large part of my reputation is built on trust and integrity, so to be honest I was pretty mortified.
But I wanted to share it with you here in the hopes that you can learn a lesson from my mistake and avoid upsetting a few people. Double check everything folks, you’ll be amazed at what you absorb into your psyche only for it to be spit out months – or even years – later in the belief that it was your own lightbulb moment. For this, Google and Wiki are my new best friends.
Another lesson? It’s not going to stop me posting quotes and sharing insights that I come across, as I know lots of you really enjoy these. So, even if you’re challenged, don’t stop, just take more care.
And the last lesson? Be the first to put up your hands and say “I got this wrong”, I own my mistake, I’ll learn from it and move on”. So, to leave you on this post, I got it wrong guys and I’m sorry. Until next time
